Marysville Golf Report – 13 September 2025

Last Saturday it was a pleasure to welcome several Junior golfers to the inaugural Junior Invitation Day. The keen young visitors played a Stableford round with a member, who acted as a mentor and guided them around the 18 holes. There were varying degrees of golfing experience amongst the visitors with some already having a golf handicap while others were allocated one on the day.

The Junior winner was Angus Birchall (36) with 34 points, followed by his cousin, Billy Baker (36) with 31 points. Angus’s round included a birdie on the challenging 12th hole, and he was also declared the men’s runner-up in the daily competition. Congratulations to Angus and all the visiting juniors.  Members thanked them all for participating in the event and their supporters for transporting them, some of whom walked the course with their young golfers.

Special thanks go to Heather Jenkins, who initiated the event, which hopefully becomes a regular part of the annual event. The winner of the men’s competition was Keith Atwell (18) with 38 points. Jody Doran (11) won the ladies section with 36 points followed by Gail Leigh (12) with 31 points.  Nearest the pins were won by Gail Leigh, Brian Worcester, Margaret Blair and Steve Coker who also won the Golden Shot. Next Saturday both the ladies and men will play for the Captain’s Trophy with the men playing stableford and the ladies playing stroke for the rescheduled Barton Shield final.

Last Thursday, the nine-holers played Stableford on the back nine holes. The winner was Richy Clark (7) with 18 points, followed by Mark Alexander (4) with 16 points on a countback. Nearest the pins went to Keith Atwell (11th) and Amanda Rattay (18th).

The Dalhousie District events have resumed after the winter break and last Thursday, whilst the nine holers were playing at home, some Marysville players were playing on other courses. Helen Howard and Heather Jenkins represented Marysville at the Avenel Ladies Tournament and with Helen winning a nearest the pin and a raffle prize and Heather gaining 3 Dalhousie Player of the Year points - making the early start and long drive worthwhile.

The Dalhousie Veterans played at Euroa, with Steve Coker represented Marysville and enjoyed the day and the course. This week, the ladies will travel to play in the Kilmore Tournament, while the Veterans next play at Eildon on 25 September.

On Friday, 3 October a dinner will be held in the Pavilion Bar and Grill to thank Kellan Fiske for his 18 years of service as greenkeeper. The evening will also honour major supporters who have helped the club over the years, including replacing the Club’s stolen equipment The dinner will commence at 6.00 for 6.30 pm, at a cost of $40 per head for a two-course meal.

For more information, please contact Steve Coker (0419 755 577).

Members and visitors are advised that the course will be closed on Friday 19 September for major tree works. As part of the same operation, the front nine holes will also be closed on Monday 22 September to complete these works.
