Marysville Golf Report July 11

Members and friends of the Marysville Golf club would like to send their condolences to the friends and family of Steve Darmody who died suddenly last week. Steve was an avid golfer and a member of the Alexandra Golf Club. Many of the Marysville golfers played with Steve in a number of club and Dalhousie events and most recently in the Foodworks Murrindindi Masters.  He was friendly and fun and often when giving the Alexandra Golf Report on UGFM he would fill in his time allowance with some of his famous ‘jokes’. Our thoughts are with his family and the members of the Alexandra Golf Club.

The Thursday golfers played stroke on the front nine holes. The winner was Richy Clark (7) with nett 33 followed by Lloyd Flaherty (9) with nett 36 on a countback. Mark Alexander had 11 putts and a nearest the pin on the 9^th hole and Richy was closest to the pin on the 4^th hole. Also, on Thursday Glen Rattay and Keith Atwell played in a sudden death play off for the final of the Winter Aggregate. Congratulations to Keith for winning the play off and the Winter Aggregate trophy.

Conditions were good for golf on Saturday when the players played a 4BBB stableford round with partners being selected after the game. Margaret Blair (36) with 32 points was the ladies daily winner followed by Gail Leigh (11) with 31 points. Richy Clark (15) with 37 points won the men’s daily competition with Colin Davies (28)  runner up with 36 points. The randomly selected winning 4BBB team were Richy and Margaret with 69 points and Colin and Adam Littlejohn were the runners up with 68 points. The nearest the pins were won by David Douthwaite, Richy Clark and Brian Worcester. Brian’s shot was also the shot of the day. His tee shot on the 18^th landed very close to but just past the pin. The ball then spun backwards travelling close to the hole and missing the drop by just millimetres. Good shot Brian!

Next Saturday all golfers will play a stableford round.

Members would like to thank the Course volunteers who, under the recent challenging weather conditions, have maintained the greens and fairways so well.  Members are reminded to please sell the club raffle tickets and return them to Steve Coker as soon as possible. A few more raffle books are still available. The Club Committee will meet at 8 am next Saturday.
