The carpark was overflowing at Marysville Community Golf Club on Saturday as 100 players came to celebrate the 50th Anniversary of the back 9 holes, making Marysville an 18 hole golf course. The weather was perfect and players teed off at 1pm with a shotgun start to play a 4 person Ambrose. The winning team with a nett score of 52 was ex-member father and son, Steve and Brendan Krueger with Jason Brace and Roger Storen. Runners up were Marysville member Keith Atwell with Ward Krstic, Aleks Krstic and Matt Meaby on a countback with 53. Other Marysville winners were Nearest the Pin on the 4th, Linda Wilson (ladies) and Sam Meadows (mens) 9th, Gail Leigh (ladies) and Travers Stow (men), Helen Howard (ladies) and Andy Jenkic (mens) on the 11th, Naomi Gist (ladies) and Jason Stirling (mens) on the 18th, and Nick Wilson (mens) and Feirn Thomson (ladies) with the longest drive on the 8th.
A day celebrating a significant milestone doesn’t come about without a lot of hard work. It is too numerous to mention everyone individually but special thanks must go to Jody Doran for coordinating such a successful event, the greenkeeping staff who presented the course so well, all the volunteers who helped with preparing the venue, and the course and car park marshals as well as the bar staff on the day. Thank you to Sherry Ackerman and Zoe Bertram from Marysville Girl Guides and Brownies who provided a Sausage Sizzle before play and to Glen Fiske and his team for a delicious dinner.
After play, members were joined by 50 guests for dinner and were able to bid in a Silent Auction for a range of excellent prizes. Special mention was made of Life Member, Liz Amos, who attended and drew the names for the raffle winners. Ex-member, Jason Stirling, conducted a Live Auction for popular items which saw some heated bidding. Thanks to Jason for acting as auctioneer and also to Ailsa Page who acted as MC. The club would like to thank all those who donated so generously to the auction and to Tomma for putting up the $25,000 Hole in One prize on the 9th hole which no one succeeded in winning.
The Men’s Mixed Tournament was played on Sunday, 10th November and results will be given next week. For all upcoming events at the Marysville Golf Club please visit our website.
