Last Thursday the happy band of nine holers played stableford on the front nine holes. The winner was Richy Clark (5) with 21 stableford points. The runner up on a three way countback was Gail Leigh (5) with 18 points. Richy also won the nearest the pin on the 4th hole and Patrick Orwin was the closest to the pin on the 9th. Patrick’s round also included the shot of the day when he chipped into the hole from about 50 metres away on the 6th to save par. It appears that a food fest is held after play on Thursdays and following the pizzas provided last week golfers this week enjoyed sharing a delicious platter of food. On Thursday 19th December a BBQ will be served at 12 pm before teeing off at 1.00pm. With golf followed by food no wonder the number of golfers playing nine holes on a Thursday is increasing.
The Saturday golfers yet again had to tolerate quite uncomfortable conditions with high temperatures, high humidity, rain, sun, and swarms of flies which tried to enter every facial orifice! The ladies managed to complete their 18 holes with dry clothing but a few of the men got drenched when a heavy storm hit Marysville as they were playing their last few holes. The ladies played a stroke round for the December monthly medal and incorporated their stableford points for the Norman Trophy which had been postponed the previous week. The winner of both the Medal and the trophy was Helen Howard (24) with nett 77 and 33 stableford points. The runner up was Sabrina Stow (22) with nett 79. Richy Clark (12) had a successful day winning the medal with nett 67, nearest the pin on the 9th hole and the Golden Shot. The runner up was Steve Coker (17) with nett 75 on a countback from Ken Whittingham and Peter Lilley who won the putting competition with 23 putts. The remaining nearest the pins were won by Mark Bambery, Brian Worcester and Alan Howard.
Next Saturday for those who have won a monthly medal it is the Medal of Medalists play off and all other golfers will play a stroke round.
For information about the upcoming golf clinics to be held at Marysville on Friday 10th January please refer to the Marysville Golf Club website. There are still places available in Clinic 3 for intermediate golfers who play on a semi regular basis.
