Whilst a number of Dalhousie District golf courses are closed due to waterlogged fairways, greens and bunkers Marysville golfers are fortunate to have been able to play golf as listed in the syllabus. Last Monday the Dalhousie Ladies Foursomes event at Kilmore was cancelled and the Veterans event at Strathbogie on Thursday has also been cancelled. The Trentham golf club ladies were able to hold their Trentham Plate last Friday and Marysville’s representative Jillian Chandler (27) with 32 stableford points gained three Dalhousie Player of the Year points which currently, with a number of events to come, places her at the top of the 2022 ladder. Well played Jillian.
On Saturday the semi finals of the mixed match play was completed and both matches were tight games. The Yewls Kuan v Jody Doran game went to the 19th hole and Yewls won that hole and the match. Yewls’ brother Ming played Steve Coker and Ming won 2 up. Congratulations to Yewls and Ming who will play each other in the final on Saturday 17th September.
Both the men and the ladies played a stroke round for the September monthly medal. The ladies winner was Bec Lee (25) with nett 77 followed by Gail Leigh (12) with nett 79. The ladies round also included the 3rd round of the Barton Shield and both Bec Lee and Jillian Chandler qualified for the final to be played later in the year. The men’s medal winner was Duncan Talbot (9) with nett 71 and Steve Coker (18) was the runner up on a countback with nett 75. The nearest the pins were won by Steve Berry, Peter Lilley, Gail Leigh and Yewls Kuan who also won the Golden Shot.
Members welcomed three guests to the competition – John Rachcoff from Eildon GC, Josephine Lawrence from Commonwealth GC and Jacques Lawrence who is a Marysville Metro60 member. The day was also a Charity Day with all entry fees and raffle money donated to The Dalton Fiske Foundation. This is a Marysville and District Lions Project which supports a young person from the district with funds towards their tertiary studies or apprenticeship.
Next Saturday the club AGM will be held in the clubrooms at 9.00am after which the men will play the final of the Par Shield and the ladies will play a stableford round for the Norman Trophy.
