Last Saturday with early weather conditions rather challenging only a few golfers were brave enough to play but as the morning proceeded and the weather improved those golfers who didn’t play realised that they had made the wrong decision. Both the ladies and the men played stroke for the June monthly medal. The ladies winner was Gail Leigh (11) with 71 nett followed by Heather Jenkins (18) with 75 nett. The men’s winner was Peter Lilley (17) with 71 nett with Richie Clark (18) closely behind with nett 72. Steve Berry won the putting with 26 putts and the nearest the pins were won by Keith Atwell and Gail Leigh who also won the Golden Shot.
On Thursday 25 May the ladies played in the Strathbogie Bowl and had some excellent results. The team of Heather Jenkins, Margaret Blair and Bev Bellman won the Bowl with 101 points and Jenny Coleman won B Grade with 36 points. Margaret Blair won the veterans section, Heather Jenkins was the closest to the pin on the 8th hole and both Jenny and Margaret gained some Dalhousie Player of the Year points. Two ladies also won hampers in the raffle so a good day was had by all. The next Dalhousie event is the Avenel Bowl on 15 June before a winter recess.
Club members were saddened to hear of the death of long-time member Max Owen. Max was a great supporter of the club and held many positions of responsibility. He had lived in Marysville for over 30 years and his extraordinary feat of saving his own house and assisting neighbours during the Black Saturday bush fires was legendary. Our thoughts are with Max’s friends and family.
Next Saturday both the men and ladies will play stroke with the ladies round incorporating the fourth and final round of the championships. Members are asked to please note that the men’s championship rounds will now be held on 7th, 14th and 21st of October. The Woodlands and Woodend Challenge will be held on the 28th of October.
