Golf Report - 20th December, 2021

Writer's picture: MCG&BCMCG&BC

The annual Presentation Day was held last Saturday and a lot of fun was had by all. The day started with an 8.30 am tee off for a game of Pink Ball Stableford. Teams of 3 players were drawn from a hat and each team were given a pink ball kindly donated by Margaret Blair. Each player in the team had to play with the pink ball on 6 holes and the stableford score gained with the pink ball on each hole was multiplied with the best score of the other two players. If the pink ball was lost the team had to pay $5 each to be given another coloured ball. In very hot and humid conditions the results were mixed but the winning team comprising Heather Jenkins, Alan Howard and Ming Kuan won with 83 points. The runners up with 80 points were Mark Bamford, Paul Martin and Gail Leigh. The nearest the pins were won by Gail Leigh, Keith Atwell, Jodie Doran and Duncan Talbot. The winners received their trophies from Jenny Webb from Barry Plant Real Estate in Woori Yallock who kindly sponsors the day and has done so for many years. Many thanks Jenny.

After play the lunch provided by Glen Fiske was enjoyed by all players and visitors before the annual presentations took place. Obviously there were not many trophies to be presented this year as competition play was not allowed for many weeks and our Melbourne members were in extended lockdowns. The dress up theme was a character from a book, a film or a TV show and what a weird and motley crew they made. Dolly Parton, Jane Fonda, Smokey Bear, Hermione Granger, Wally, James Bond, The Blues Brother, a wicked witch, Hiawatha, the Great Gatsby and many others were present. Raffle hampers kindly donated by Rebecca Lee were also distributed and Margaret Blair won the prize for the best costume.

Our thanks to all those who played some part in the organization of this successful day.

Next Saturday there will be no competition play as most members will be tucking into Christmas lunch but the 2022 syllabus starts on Jan 1st with a stroke round for the January monthly medal and Round 1 of the Summer Aggregate.
