Last Friday was one of the wettest days of the year with torrential rain causing local flooding and very difficult driving conditions. Miraculously by Saturday morning the last of the rain had been blown away and conditions for golf were almost perfect except for some strong winds. The course and greens having been rain affected had dried out overnight on Friday and apart from some wet patches were in very good shape. A snake was even seen on the 17th river crossing enjoying a sunbake.
The men played the final round of their Club Championships and members congratulated Andrew O’Shea for being declared the 2024 Scratch Champion with 251 after 3 rounds -84, 85 and 82. The winner of the handicap section and the Black Spur Trophy was Travers Stow with nett 228. Adam Littlejohn was the runner up with nett 230. Congratulations Andrew, Travers and Adam. The ladies played the third of four rounds for their Championships and the daily winner was Heather Jenkins (20) with nett 74 followed by Margaret Blair (35) with nett 75 on a countback from Jody Doran. Next Saturday both the men and ladies will play stroke with the ladies game incorporating the final round of their Club Championships.
It was announced on Saturday that Richy Clark will continue as Captain of the men’s section and we thank Ken Whittingham for taking over the role of Vice Captain from Colin Davies. Members thanked Colin for all his work as Captain and latterly Vice Captain over the last few years.
On Thursday 17th October four ladies played in the Yea tournament and Margaret Blair (34) won C Grade with an excellent 104/73. Our thanks to the Yea ladies for their hospitality and all the Yea volunteers for preparing the course so well.
Over the next few weeks it will be a very busy time at the club. The 50 Year Celebration Ambrose Golf Day and Dinner is on the 9th November, the Marysville Mixed Tournament is on the 10th November, the Dalhousie Veterans are playing at Marysville on the 14th November and the first round of the Murrindindi Masters is at Eildon and being played on Saturday 16th November. Members are asked to please volunteer to assist at these events and to ensure that entries are made and lists are signed. There are still spaces available for the golf day and dinner and locals are reminded that they can attend the dinner without having to play golf.
