Golf Report - 18 December 2022

Last Saturday the weather in Marysville was perfect with warm sunny conditions and very little wind. Onlookers were rather perplexed when they witnessed some Marysville golfers arriving dressed in varieties of wet weather gear. There were players wearing waterproof ponchos, some looked as though they had swum to the club, others were ‘slippery when wet’, fishing waders and gum boots were worn, some umbrellas were perched on heads and there was even a Mermaid. The theme for this years presentation day festivities was ‘Wet Wet Wet ‘and that explained the choice of apparel for some golfers. Some players were able to wear their costume whilst playing in the 2 person Ambrose event with each player using just 3 clubs and a putter. The winning pair was Steve Berry and Mark Banberry with net 67.5 followed by Sabrina and Travers Stow. The nearest the pins were won by Kelly Lloyd- Vanni, Sabrina Stow, Peter Lilley and Steve Berry. After play members gathered on the decking for lunch and the presentations of the annual trophies led by Alan Howard. Jody Doran and Margaret Blair were wished Happy Birthday. Members thanked Alan and Helen Howard for coordinating the event and all those who assisted with the organization of the day. The winner of the best dressed golfer was well deserved by the Mermaid, Jillian Chandler, who made her own costume and who completed all 18 holes wearing it. Whilst she didn’t have to enter any of the water hazards to retrieve her ball at least she was well prepared if she had needed to. Next Saturday for those who wish to play on Christmas Eve a stableford game will be played.

Members would like to thank all those who have contributed to the successful running of the club throughout 2022. The inclement weather has obviously been a major factor for those in charge and special thanks to Kellan Fiske and his team of volunteers for maintaining the course so well in very difficult circumstances.

The first round of the Foodworks Murrindindi Masters will be played at Yea on Jan 14. All local golfers who intend playing in this competition are asked to enter their names as soon as possible to enable Yea members to prepare for the event.

Marysville members wish all golfers and members of the community a very Happy Christmas and New Year. We are looking forward to more golf in 2023.
