Last Saturday was the first for some time when the Marysville golfers didn’t require their wet weather gear. Playing conditions were good and the golfers enjoyed their day on the course. Some players played in the first round of the mixed match play event. Match play is the game played in a pennant competition whereby two players compete to win the hole. The hole is either won, lost or squared and the player with the most wins at the end of the round wins the match. Saturday's winners were Paul Martin, Mark Bambery, Richie Clark, Peter Lilley, Jody Doran, Brian Worcester and Yewls Kuan. In the next round on Saturday 26th August Paul will play Mark, Richie v Peter, Brian v Yewls and Jody will play the winner of the match between Margaret Blair and Steve Coker. Those who didn’t play in the match play played a Stableford round. The ladies' winner was Margaret Blair (33) with 34 points followed by Gail Leigh (11) with 30 points. The men’s winner was Adam Littlejohn (22) with an excellent 38 points followed by Mark Alexander (6) with 36 points. The nearest the pins were won by Adam Littlejohn (2) Mark Alexander, and Peter Lilley who also won the Golden Shot. Next Saturday both the men and the ladies will play a stroke round for the first round of the Winter Aggregate.
During the recess period of the Dalhousie District ladies' events a number of Marysville ladies play social golf on other local courses. Last Thursday three Marysville ladies joined four from the Yea Golf Club for a game at the RACV club in Healesville. There was plenty of friendship, fun and frivolity but not many good scores. Members would like to thank Heather Jenkins for organising this initiative.
The District Open Challenge Bowl will be held on Sunday 13th August at the Broadford Golf Club. Clubs are invited to enter teams of 4 (any combination) for a Stableford game. Any Marysville members who would like to enter this event are asked to register with Lesley Rundle by Saturday 5th August.
