Golf Report - 1 May 2022

Last Thursday eight ladies played in the Alexandra Tournament and enjoyed the course and the mild conditions. Congratulations to Gail Leigh (9) who with 83 off the stick won the major trophy. Margaret Blair won 4 Dalhousie Player of the Year points and Jillian Chandler was a member of the winning small teams and gained 3 Dalhousie Player of the Year points. Our thanks to the Alexandra ladies for their hospitality.

On Saturday playing numbers were down due to heavy rain overnight but the course handled the downpour very well and the syllabus was followed. The men completed the second round of the Barton Cup. The daily winner was Mark Bambery (25) with an excellent 40 points followed by Brian Worcester (15) with 35 points on a countback from Peter Lilley. Alan Howard, Jim Bisset, Keith Atwell and Peter Doery had previously qualified for the final and after yesterday’s game Mark Bambery, Brian Worcester, Peter Lilley and Richard Clark will join them in the final later in the year. The ladies played a stableford round and it was another win for Gail Leigh (9) with 34 points on a countback from Jillian Chandler. The nearest the pins were won by Heather Jenkins, Brian Worcester and Peter Lilley who also won the Golden Shot. During the presentation members helped Heather Jenkins celebrate her Birthday. Heather is the person who kindly organizes the birthday celebrations for all the lady members so it was pleasing for them to reciprocate and help Heather eat her cake! Next Saturday both the men and ladies will play a stroke round for the May monthly medal and the ladies round will incorporate the first round of the Barton Shield.

Members thanked Jim Bisset and the other course volunteers for cleaning up the small dam near the 4th green and for filling it with water. It has certainly enhanced the area but of course it will attract many balls hit from the tee. Our thanks also to Jim Bisset for joining the management committee of the club.

On Sunday the men’s pennant team played Yea at Alexandra and Marysville won 4-1. Our thanks to Alan Howard, Andrew O Shea, Steve Berry, Richard Clark and Keith Atwell for representing Marysville. The next round will be held at Marysville on Sunday 15th May.

The ladies Dalhousie pennant season starts tomorrow with Marysville playing Broadford at Seymour. Check the next golf report for results.
