Firstly a ‘Mystery Discovery on the Golf Course’ – no, not the title of an Ann Cleeves novel but as shown in the photo – a pair of flippers were found dumped in a rubbish bin on the 16th tee. After play, there were many creative thoughts as to how, why and when they came to be there. ‘Maybe someone lost them when snorkelling in the river’; A golfer forgot his golf shoes so wore his flippers until he or she could no longer keep up with the group; whilst someone was fishing a pair of flippers floated down the river, and they were disposed of in the bin! Maybe the mystery will never be solved? Better call VERA!!
Last Thursday the nine-holers played stableford on the back nine holes. The winner was Heather Jenkins (12) with 18 points, followed by Keith Atwell (9) with 17 points. Nearest the pin on the 11th was Peter Lilley, who sank the putt for a birdie, and Gail Leigh won on the 18th.
The Saturday golfers in perfect weather conditions played a stableford round for the Neil Murphy Trophy. The winner was Hayden Heath (14) with 36 points, and Justin Ruddock with 34 points was the runner-up on a countback from Peter Lilley. Peter did however, have success with 2 nearest the pins-the 9th and 18th and also won the Golden Shot. Hayden’s excellent round included the nearest the pin on the 4th hole. Next Saturday, a stroke round will be played for the September monthly medal.
Members are reminded to please return their raffle books to Steve Coker as soon as possible, and the raffle will be drawn on 12 September during the club AGM.
The annual Standpipe Cup, generously sponsored by Goulburn Valley Water will this year be played at Mansfield G C on Saturday 3rd October. It is a 4-person men's, ladies or mixed Ambrose event for all clubs who are customers of GV Water. Marysville members are asked to contact Richy Clark if they would like to play in this event, and 2 Marysville teams have already entered. Due to the date of the Standpipe Cup, the Men and Ladies Championships dates will be changed, and members are asked to please note that the Men’s Championships will now be on the 10th, 17th and 24th October, and the Ladies event will be on 26 September, 10, 17 and 24 October.
