On Saturday 7th February all those affected by the 2009 Black Saturday fires were remembered. The Marysville golfers played the annual 4 BBB stableford game in memory of James and Matthew Liesfield, their Mother Elizabeth and all those who lost their lives that day. The boys were keen and talented young golfers and had played in the February monthly medal on the morning of the 7th.  Their Aunty Marianne and Uncle Colin have joined members for many years to participate in the Liesfield Trophy game and to present the cup. On Saturday we were thrilled to welcome them again from their home in Warrnambool.

The Liesfield trophy is a highly sought after trophy with members keen to get their names engraved on the cup. The 2026 first time winners were David Douthwaite and Keith Atwell with an excellent 49 stableford points. The runners up were Helen Howard and Heather Jenkins with 41 points on a countback from Gail Leigh and Margaret Blair. The nearest the pins were won by Ray Jones, Adam Littlejohn, Helen Howard and Brian Worcester who also won the Golden Shot.

The Thursday nine holers played Ambrose on the front nine holes and were pleased to welcome back Mark Alexander. With a decisive win Colin Davies (11) Geoff Ferguson (8) and Brian Worcester (10) won with a score of 26.2. The runners up were Gail Leigh and Keith Atwell with 33 points. The nearest the pins went to Glen Rattay and Brian Worcester who after driving the 9th green was able to sink a 10-foot putt for a birdie.

Next Saturday members will be playing at Eildon for the 3rd round of the Foodworks Murrindindi Masters. The final round will be held at Yea on Saturday 28th February.

The Marysville members are preparing for a very busy period at the club with the annual Lakeside Challenge on Saturday 7th March, a golf clinic on Tuesday 17th March, the Ladies Sandy Wilson Bowl on Thursday 26th March and the Dalhousie Veterans on Tuesday 31 March. For information regarding spaces available in the Clinic on 17th March and the Junior Invitational Day on the 4 April please refer to the golf club website or contact Heather Jenkins on 0429146763.
