Many Saturdays recently have been wet, windy and cold and last Saturday hail could be added to the list. Nevertheless, a number of local and visiting golfers supported the annual fundraising Ambrose event and accepted the poor weather conditions in good spirit and all players bravely completed the round. As one player commented ‘many costume changes were required, with rain wear on/off, jumpers on/off and umbrellas up/down’ as they soldiered on around the course.

Twelve teams participated in the 4 person Ambrose and the winning team were the AUCN Crew- Charles, Chen, Huang and Lu with nett 56.37. The runners up were the Bretts Boys- Brett Mansfield, Phil Forge, Jun Wang ( Future Golf) and Peter Lilley with 58.25. In third place were Grahams Gang- Graham Inglefinger, Paul Robson, Steve Carr and Mike Taylor with 60.37. Mike also won the longest drive on the 8th hole and the nearest the pin on the 11th. Members Mark Alexander and Richy Clark had the nearest the pin on the 4th and 9th and Michelle West was closest to the pin on the 18th.

Understandably players after their round were pleased to warm up in the Pavilion dining room and were welcomed and thanked by the recently elected President Paul Martin. Paul dusted off his excellent mandarin language skills to give a warm feng shui welcome to all those present including the Chinese guests from AUCN golf club and Future Golf. Paul thanked the sponsors and local businesses for their donations, club members, course volunteers, and all those who assisted with organising the event. Bick and his team were thanked for the delicious roast lunch he served to the group of hungry and cold golfers. Special thanks were given to Steve Coker for arranging and managing the event and for his auctioneering skills which produced some spirited bidding and the sale of all offerings at the auction.

Paul Gardiner from Bendigo Bank Dandenong Ranges Branch spoke briefly to confirm that they were pleased to sponsor and support the event. Other sponsors were International Trade Management, The Murrindindi Shire, Drummond Golf, Toro Australia, The Pavilion Bar and Grill, Peppers Marysville, Marysville Music Festival and Healesville Motorcycles. All were thanked profusely for their support. The raffle was conducted by Richy Clark with Michele Mansfield holding the bowl of tickets. There was a lot of laughter and banter when Richy drew Micheles ticket, then Michele drew Richys ticket followed by Richy drawing another of his own tickets.

Last Thursday Heather Jenkins, Margaret Blair and Mim Page played in the ladies Bowl at Mandalay Golf Club in Beveridge. They enjoyed the experience of playing on the Peter Thomson designed course and Mim was a winner in the novelty nearest the pin chipping event. Congratulations to the ladies team from Yea for winning the bowl. This week the ladies will pay in the Seymour Tournament.

Next Saturday all members will play a stroke round for the November monthly medal and members are reminded that the Dalhousie Championships will be held at Yea on Sunday 29th November with all details available on the Dalhousie Website. The 17th Annual Golf and Cycling Challenge is being held at Marysville golf club on Friday 27th November.
