Having played in the Lancefield Tournament on Thursday 30 April the ladies pennant team returned there just 4 days later to play against the Romsey/Macedon team in the 4th round of the Dalhousie season. The Romsey/Macedon team won 3-2 and are now on top of the ladder. Monday 11 May was a BYE for the Marysville team with the other teams gathering at Mandalay Golf Club for the 5 and final round. Romsey/Macedon will be in the finals on 18 May but their opponents will be decided at Mandalay. The men’s postponed pennant final between Marysville and Alexandra will now be played at Eildon on Sunday 24 May.

With snow down to 600m last Thursday the nine holers at Marysville didn’t play but 4 ladies played in the Yea ladies Bowl. Conditions were challenging but players soldiered on and all golfers completed the 18 holes. The Mansfield team won the Bowl whilst Kilmore were runners up. Our thanks to the great team at Yea for their hospitality and a well organised event.

On Saturday in almost perfect conditions all the golfers played a Par round. Par is not the most popular game on the golfing syllabus and good scores were hard to come by but Sabrina Stow (23) was the ladies winner with -2 followed by Michele Mansfield (26) on a countback from Heather Jenkins with -1. Keith Atwell (20) won the men’s section with +4 followed closely by Ray Jones (24) with +3. The nearest the pins were won by Gail Leigh, Richy Clark, Keith Atwell and Adam Littlejohn who also won the Golden Shot. Next Saturday all golfers will play a stableford round. The men will play the 2nd round of the Barton Cup and the ladies will play for the Norman trophy.

During the presentation long time members Alan and Helen Howard were farewelled as they are relocating to Pakenham. Both Helen and Alan have contributed greatly during their time at the club which they joined in the 1980s. Alan has been Captain, pennant Captain, a committee member and supporter of many events and mentor to many players. His name appears on most of the major trophies. Helen has been the ladies handicapper, the chief cake maker, the Raffle Wonder Woman, a great pennant player and has supported numerous Dalhousie District events which often involved very early starts and long drives. The members thanked them both very much for their contribution and wished them well with their move. They each have big boots to fill!
