Last Thursday a field of stoic, or crazy, golfers played the nine-hole competition in terrible conditions. Amongst blustering winds, strong downpours and some sunshine they played stroke on the front nine holes. Gail Leigh (5) won the competition with nett 36 on a countback from Glen Rattay. Gail had 13 putts and also claimed the nearest the pin on the 4th hole. Lloyd Flaherty won the nearest the pin on the 9th hole.
By contrast the conditions on Saturday were perfect for golf and golfers could be seen removing layers of clothing as the day progressed. All players played stroke for the September monthly medal. The ladies’ winner was Jody Doran (12) with nett 75 followed by Heather Jenkins (19) with nett 79. Paul Martin (28) won the men’s medal with nett 66 and Richy Clark (13) with nett 68 was the runner up. The nearest the pins were won by Richy on the 4th, Alan Howard on the 9th, and Paul Martin on the 11th and Paul also won the Golden Shot. With 28 putts Mark Alexander won the putting competition on a count back from Glen Rattay. At the presentation members welcomed Miles Coker to the competition and welcomed back Helen and Alan Howard from their long trip away. Next Saturday, the golfers will play a Stableford round with some juniors, as part of the Junior Invitational Day.
The ladies Dalhousie events have begun after the winter recess with Trentham holding their Bowl last Thursday. Marysville will be represented at the Avenel tournament on 11th September.
The Club AGM was held prior to play on Saturday, and many members were thanked for their outstanding contributions to the club. Incoming committee members Amanda Rattay, Glen Rattay and Peter Doery were thanked for joining the committee. David Douthwaite was warmly thanked for taking on the role of Webmaster. Special thanks to Steve Coker President, and Travers Stow Treasurer, for all their hard work in guiding the club through yet another year.
