This week is National Volunteer Week with the theme-Your Year to Volunteer. It is appropriate to acknowledge all volunteers who contribute so much to our Nation and our Shire. Marysville Golf Club members would like to thank all the volunteers in the District who contribute so much to making the Murrindindi Shire such a great place to live. The Marysville Golf Club would not exist without volunteers. Whether it be maintaining the course, gardens and carts, governing and marketing the club, fundraising, coordinating competitions and events and many other roles. All are greatly appreciated by members and visitors.
Last Saturday both the men and ladies played a stableford round with the men’s round including the second round of the Barton Cup and the ladies the Norman Trophy. The winner of the Norman Trophy was Gail Leigh (10) with 32 points on a countback from Heather Jenkins and Fiona Wright. Heather was the runner up. The men’s winner with an excellent 41 points was Paul Martin (29) followed by Drew Kaempkes (12) with 40 points. The Barton Cup qualifiers from this round were Paul Martin, Drew Kaempkes, Ray Jones and Adam Littlejohn. The nearest the pins were won by Richy Clark, Peter Lilley, Brian Worcester and Ray Jones who also won the golden shot. Next Saturday a mixed 4BBB game will be played.
This week the ladies will travel to Strathbogie to play in their ladies Bowl.
Just as all clubs rely on volunteers, funds have to be raised to enhance the operation of clubs. The fundraising efforts of the Marysville golf club are underway.
On the Saturday and Sunday of the Kings Birthday weekend - 6 and 7 June- there will be a fundraising Hole in One Competition. It will be held each day on the practice fairway and green from 10-4 pm. The cost is $5 for 1 ball and $20 for 5 balls. No bookings are required and a golf club will be supplied if needed. The prize for the first hole in one is $1000 and other prizes will be offered. All local and visiting golfers and non-golfers are encouraged to call into the club on one or both of those days and ‘have a go’.
The annual club raffle is also now being held and members each have a book of raffle tickets to sell. The draw will take place on 12 September and the prizes are $1000 cash, a dozen bottles of Premium Wine, a $200 Bunnings Voucher and a trailer load of firewood. Tickets can be purchased from a club member or from the club shop.
The club is also selling firewood for $120 a trailer load with free delivery within the Triangle area. Contact the club on 59633241 to organise a delivery.
