The Dalhousie Pennant season is well under way with the men’s finals played last Sunday at Lancefield. In the Div 2 Handicap final Marysville played Alexandra but unfortunately due to heavy rain the match was abandoned after 4 holes. The decision regarding the outcome of the match is pending and will be explained in next week’s report. On Monday 27th April in the 3rd round of the ladies section Marysville played Woodend at Seymour and lost 3/2. Both Michele Mansfield and Margaret Blair’s matches were drawn after the 18th and a 19th hole had to be played. Despite their great efforts both the ladies lost on the 19th hole. On Monday Marysville played Romsey/Macedon at Lancefield and results will be given next week.
Last Thursday 3 ladies travelled to Lancefield to play in the Ladies tournament. Most players found the fast pace of the greens tricky but a good day was had by all 46 ladies who attended. This week’s Dalhousie event is closer to home at Yea and 5 ladies will compete in the annual Bowl.
On Saturday a mixed stroke round was played for the May monthly medal and the ladies round included the 3rd round of the Barton Shield. The ladies medal winner was Heather
Jenkins (19) with nett 76 and the runner up was Sabrina Stow (23) with nett 78 on a countback from Beverley Bellman. The round 3 qualifiers for the Barton Shield were Beverley Bellman and Fiona Wright. Round 4 will be on June 13th. The daily winner was David Douthwaite (24) with nett 71 followed by Steve Coker (18) with nett 72. At the presentation former member and men’s Captain Justin Ruddick and his son Hayden were welcomed to the club and Hayden won 3 of the 4 nearest the pins. Brian Worcester won on the 11th hole and also won the Golden Shot. Richy Clark won the putting with 23. At presentation members helped Heather Jenkins celebrate her Birthday and all enjoyed the chocolate cake expertly made by Helen Howard. Next Saturday all golfers will play Par.
It was with great shock and sadness that members learnt of the tragic death of Barb. Doyle. She was a long-time respected member of the Murrindindi and Dalhousie golfing community, was a skilful golfer and a pleasure to play with. Our thoughts are with her family, friends and all the Alexandra Golf Club members. Barb’s smile and calm demeanour will be greatly missed.
