Last Saturday in pouring rain which lasted for most of the day the Marysville golfers played a 4BBB game for the Liesfield Trophy. This is a most highly sought after trophy as it is played in memory of James and Matthew Liesfield and their Mother Elizabeth who were killed in the Black Saturday fires. Matthew and James were polite and popular young members and had played in the monthly medal event on the morning of 7th February 2009. Their Aunt and Uncle, Marianne and Colin Easton, travel from their farm near Ararat each year to play in the competition and to present the cup to the winning pair. The club thanked them for making the journey again this year. There were 12 pairs in the competition and the winners were Peter Lilley and Adam Littlejohn with 45 points. The club congratulate Peter and Adam on a well- deserved win. Others who gained 40 points or more were Marianne Easton and Colin Davies with 42, Sabrina and Travers Stow with 41 and Heather Jenkins and Alan Howard with 40. The nearest the pins were won by Colin Davies, Ming Kuan, Gail Leigh and Jody Doran who also won the Golden Shot.
Next Saturday 11 February golfers from Yea, Alexandra and Marysville will play at Eildon GC for the 3rd round of the FoodWorks Murrindindi Masters. There will be no competition at Marysville on that day.
Friday Night Fun at the Golf Club is held each Friday from 4.00 pm and all golfers, non- golfers, locals and visitors are welcome. A novelty putting competition with supplied putters and a Hole in One competition with unique wooden clubs are played. Players tee off from the 10th tee to a temporary green close by and a $125 prize is available to the player who gets the first hole in one. The bar will be open and at times the big screen will be functioning. If the weather is inclement some inside fun and games have been devised. Just go along and have some fun!
