Golf Report - 5 August 2023

There are many unusual and unique terms used in golf to describe various aspects of the game. Examples include birdie, albatross, eagle, airy and a gobbler.

A number of the Marysville golfers when asked on Saturday had not heard of the term "golden ferret" which Mim Page achieved when played at Gardener's Run golf course last Thursday. There was great excitement when Mim "the golden ferretier" hit her ball out of a bunker straight into the hole, thus claiming a golden ferret. There are very few courses in the Dalhousie District which have bunkers, so this expression is rarely heard locally. Well played Mim!

Last Saturday golfers played a stroke round for the August monthly medal. The lady's winner was Gail Leigh (12) with net 77 followed by Lesley Rundle (30) with net 80. The men’s winner was Richie Clark (17) with net 73 on a countback from Steve Coker (16). The nearest the pins were won by Steve Coker, Mark Bambery and Paul Martin who also won the Golden Shot. Also, on Saturday Steve Coker and Margaret Blair played their delayed mixed match play match which Steve won 2-1.

Next Saturday the second round of the mixed match play will be played with Paul Martin playing Mark Bambery, Richie Clark v Peter Lilley, Steve Coker v Jody Doran and Brian Worcester will play Yewls Kuan. Those who are no longer in the mixed match play will play a Stableford game.

During the week a number of dangerous trees and branches were removed from around the front nine holes. Members thank Kellan Fiske and the volunteers for assisting Barney and Darren Bell for carrying out this mammoth task. More time will be spent on the project this week.

The club AGM will be held on Saturday 2nd September in the clubhouse at 9.00am.
