Golf Report - 30 September 2023

Another glorious sunny day welcomed the Marysville golfers last Saturday for an early start to allow players to watch the AFL Grand Final later in the day.

Both the men and the ladies played a stableford round for the Neil Murphy Trophy. Neil Murphy was a stalwart of the club and held many positions of responsibility including that of Captain for many years. His favourite view of the course was from the 13th tee and a plaque has been positioned there in his honour. The winner of the trophy was Metro60-12 member Jacque Lawrence (45) with an excellent 37 points on a countback from Brian Worcester (19). Members congratulated Jacque on her first win at Marysville. Brian was the daily winner with 37 points followed by Richie Clark (13) with 34 points. The ladies daily winner was Gail Leigh (12) with 35 points on a countback from Heather Jenkins (20). The nearest the pins were won by Brian Worcester, Heather Jenkins, Jim Bissett and Gail Leigh who won the Golden Shot.

Last Thursday four ladies played in the Strathbogie Tournament and both Helen Howard and Jenny Coleman received some Player of the Year Points. This week Euroa is the venue for the Dalhousie ladies event and four Marysville ladies will play in their annual Bowl. The Marysville ladies tournament is on Thursday 12 October and they are hoping for a fine day and a good number of entries.

Next Saturday the men and ladies will play stroke for the October monthly medal with the men’s round incorporating the first round of their championships and the ladies playing for the Barton Shield Round 4. Now that Daylight saving is in place Saturday tee off time is 9.00am for 9.30. After play the men will hold a general meeting and will then combine with the ladies to discuss the election of a new club match committee.
