Golf Report - 29th November 2021

Last Thursday a number of Marysville golfers played in the Dalhousie Ladies Championships held at the Alexandra Golf Club. Twenty-nine ladies from a number of Dalhousie clubs played a stroke round in excellent conditions. Normally this event includes the Champion of Champions section but due to Covid a number of clubs have been unable to play their club championships. Gail Leigh from Marysville with 85 off the stick won the day and the Dalhousie Championship. Congratulations to Gail and to all the other winners. Our thanks to the Alexandra Golf Club for hosting the event and to the Dalhousie District Committee for organising the day.

On Friday the bi-annual Corporate Golf and Cycle Day was held at Marysville. 65 golfers and 20 cyclists participated in the day and whilst the golfers were playing a team stableford game the cyclists were enjoying their long ride around the Triangle area and further afield. Guest golfers on the day were Kellan Fiske and his course volunteers. The winning team of 4 were from L C Consultants and Marysville Team 2 comprising Kellan Fiske, Jim Bissett, Keith Atwell and Richy Clark were second. The golfers and cyclists gathered together for lunch which was provided by Glenn Fiske. Our thanks to Steve Coker and Peter Lilley for initiating and organising the day which will be repeated in April 2022.

On Saturday members played a stableford game and they welcomed Steve Manallack from Woodlands Golf Club, and a regular visitor to Marysville, to the competition. The men’s winner was Richy Clark (16) with 37 points followed by Ray Jones (16) with 34 points. The lady’s winner was Lesley Rundle (33) with 32 points and the runner up was Heather Jenkins (20) with 31 points. The nearest the pins were won by Steve Manallack, Ming Kuan, Gail Leigh and Duncan Talbot who also won the Golden Shot. Next Saturday a stroke round will be played for the December monthly medal

Before play on Saturday the club AGM was held. The committee positions remain the same with Steve Coker elected President, Travers Stow Treasurer, Miriam Page Secretary, with Peter Lilley, Andrew O’Shea, Ross Ansell and Colin Davies completing the committee membership. Very many thanks to these people for agreeing to accept the positions for another year. They have done a marvellous job administering the club during the difficult Covid times and members appreciate the time and commitment they contribute to the club. Colin Davies and Lesley Rundle remain as captains of golf.

Members are reminded to let Alan Howard or Colin Davies know if they are attending the club Presentation Day on Saturday 18th December. Numbers are required for catering purposes.
