Golf Report - 29 January 2023

Last Saturday the Marysville golf club members hosted the second round of the 2022/23 Foodworks Murrindindi Masters. In warm but calm conditions 97 golfers from Marysville, Eildon, Alexandra and Yea golf clubs played a stableford round. This is the 13th year that Foodworks have generously sponsored the Masters and all clubs are very grateful for their ongoing support. In competitive golfing events golfers who play on their home course generally have an advantage over those visiting and on Saturday this was certainly the case. At each round of the Masters the lady and man with the best scores of the day are declared the Mini Master. Marysville members won both titles with Beverley Bellman (37) winning her section with 41 points and Adam Littlejohn (22) winning the men’s competition with the same score. Congratulations to Beverley and Adam on their victories. Other Marysville winners were Heather Jenkins (21) who won A Grade with 39 points and Mim Page (23) A Grade runner-up with 37 points. Nicole Koek (45) with 35 points achieved her best score to date to be the B Grade runner up. The men’s A Grade runner up was Yewls Kuan (13) with 38 points and the men’s B Grade winner was Ray Jones (19) with 40 points. Members congratulate all the Marysville winners and those from the other clubs who were on the winners list. Hosting events such as this involves a lot of planning and work behind the scenes. Special thanks to Alan Howard and Colin Davies for organising the day and to Helen Howard for coordinating the catering and assisting with the cards and handicapping. All members were thanked for their contribution from supplying slices, preparing salad rolls, cooking sausages, preparing a raffle and serving at the Bar. The course was beautifully presented by Kellan Fiske and his band of volunteers and their hard work was appreciated by all who played. The third round of the Masters will be played at Eildon on Saturday 11 February and all local golfers are encouraged to play in this event as a way of supporting the Eildon members in what is a major fundraiser for all clubs involved.

Next Saturday at Marysville golfers will play a 4BBB game for the Liesfield Trophy. This is a highly sought after trophy which is played in memory of young members James and Matthew Liesfield and their Mother Elizabeth who died in the Black Saturday Fires. James and Matthews Aunt and Uncle travel from Ararat to play in this event and to present the trophy to the winning pair. Partners will be drawn on the day and tee off is at 9.30 am.

Friday Fun at the Golf Club is held each Friday and all golfers, non-golfers, locals and visitors are welcome to attend. This Friday (3rd Feb) we are again offering a six hole competition at 4.00pm for a warm up for the Liesfield Trophy on Saturday, then a hole-in- one putting competition at 5.00pm on the practice green using unique supplied putters and a hole in one competition off the 10th tee onto a temporary green using the supplied ‘woods’. There is a $125 prize for the first hole- in- one! It is a $1 entry for 5 balls to win the $125. The bar will be open, the big screen will be on in the function room for those who wish to watch the cricket and nibbles supplied around 6.00pm. Dress code is tropical/colourful shirts!
