Golf Report - 28 August 2022

Writer: MCG&BCMCG&BC

It was another week of wet weather and a challenging one for the green keeping team and golfers at all local clubs. The back nine holes were closed at Marysville as the Steavenson River overflowed in many areas as it flowed through the course. One long time member commented that she had never seen the course so flooded and couldn’t remember if the course had ever had to close nine holes. The Saturday golfers however played an 18 hole stableford round by playing the front nine holes twice. The men’s winner was Paul Martin (30) with an excellent 40 points followed by Brian Worcester (18) with 36 points. Gail Leigh (12) won the ladies section with 37 points with Margaret Blair (33) runner up with 34 points. Gail was nearest the pin on the 4th and the 9th and visitor Adrian Hall was the nearest the pin on the 9th for the men. Gail won the Golden Shot. The scheduled third round of the mixed match play was postponed to next week when Jody Doran will play Yewls Kuan and Steve Coker will play Ming Kuan. Next Saturday the September monthly medal will be played and the round will also include the third round of the ladies Barton Shield. This will also be a Charity Day with all proceeds going to the Dalton Fiske Foundation.

After the winter recess the Dalhousie District ladies events began last Thursday with the Broadford Bowl. Five Marysville ladies played in the event and Gail Leigh won A Grade with 28 points, Heather Jenkins gained one Dalhousie Player of the Year point and Jenny Coleman won a lucky dip prize. Congratulations to the Kilmore team for winning the Bowl. The District Awards day scheduled to be held at Kilmore on Sunday was cancelled due to the condition of the course. This week Jillian Chandler will represent Marysville in the Trentham Bowl.

The club AGM will be held in the clubrooms on Saturday 10th September at 9.00am. Members are asked to get the relevant forms such as a Nomination Form from the link on the website.
