Golf Report - 24 March 2024

Last Saturday was another busy day at the club as members welcomed the group of social golfers, the Tour Elephants, for their annual challenge. Many years ago, a South African businessman working in Melbourne decided to introduce an Ambrose competition every 2 weeks between his management team and his clients. Out of that idea grew the social group the Pink Elephants who would play at local courses but who were not members of any specific club. The name Pink Elephants was not allowed as it had been registered in another corporate setting so the members of the group changed the name to the Tour Elephants. The group now play on courses around the State and their annual visits to Marysville, since 2016, is one of the highlights of their year. In glorious conditions a stableford game was played and when points were averaged Marysville were declared the 2024 winners of the beautiful wooden perpetual trophy with 30.06 points from 23.8points. Marysville winners were Bev Bellman, Sabrina Stow, Steve Coker, Heather Jenkins, Jody Doran and Richy Clark. At the presentation captain Richard Clark thanked all those involved with the organisation of the day and the preparation of the course. One of the Tour Elephants was heard to say that ‘the course gets better every year’ and spokesmen for the  group Steve Morrell complimented the Marysville members on their hospitality and the food each member supplied for lunch. All players look forward to the 2025 Challenge.

Last Friday evening was the final Barefoot Bowls session for the Summer. We thank Jody Doran, Duncan Talbot and Mim Page for instigating this fun night and for hosting the visitors at each session.  Thanks also to the regulars who attended and hopefully more people will join them later in the year.

On Sunday the first round of the Dalhousie men’s pennant was played. Marysville played Yea at Strathbogie and Marysville were beaten 4-1. Our thanks to Alan Howard, Steve Coker, Richy Clark and Keith Atwell for playing in the match. They next play Eildon at Alexandra on 7 April.

On Easter Saturday a stableford round will be played and local golfers and visitors are welcome to join in the competition arriving at 9.00 am for a 9.30 tee off.
