Golf Report - 18 September 2022

Despite atrocious weather conditions last Saturday a number of golfers braved the elements to play a stableford round. However, the Kuan brothers who were due to play the final of the mixed match play decided to postpone the game for another week. The men’s winner was Steve Coker (18) with 31 points followed closely by Steve Berry (11) with 30 points. The ladies winner was Gail Leigh (11) with an excellent 35 points and the runner up was Heather Jenkins (21) with 27 points. Steve Berry won the nearest the pin on the 9th hole and Gail Leigh was the closest on the 11th hole. The presentation was conducted by Alan Howard who with his wife Helen have just returned from a caravan trip to Cape York and were welcomed back to the club.

On Thursday 15th September 5 ladies played in the Avenel Bowl and they had a number of successes. Avenel Golf Club is the only club in the Dalhousie District with sand greens which present the players with many challenges. Gail Leigh won A Grade with 35 stableford points and she also won the Veterans event. Heather Jenkins and Jillian Chandler joined Gail to win the small teams competition and Heather won the straightest drive on the 4th hole. Gail received 5 Dalhousie Player of the Year points and Jillian received 3 points and remains on top of the ladder. Congratulations to the Yea team of Di Elliot, Karen Sangster and Jan Wealands for winning the Avenel Bowl. The Kilmore ladies tournament due to be played on Thursday 22nd October has been cancelled so the next ladies Dalhousie event to be held will be the Strathbogie Tournament on Thursday 29th September.

Next Saturday a stableford round will be held with arrival at 9.30 for a 10.00am tee off. Any visitors to the area are welcome to play in the competition.
