Golf Report - 15 June 2024

Writer: MCG&BCMCG&BC

Another cold but sunny day greeted the golfers last Saturday as they arrived to play stroke for the first round of the Winter Aggregate. The ladies winner was the ever-reliable Heather Jenkins (18) with nett 78 followed by Gail Leigh (10) just one shot behind with nett 79. Gail also received 2 nearest the pins on the 11th and 4th hole. The men’s winner was Mark Bambery (24) with  nett 74 followed by Steve Coker (18) with nett 76. Travers Stow won the remaining nearest the pin on the 9th hole. Next Saturday the second round of the Winter Aggregate will be played. With a number of members away travelling and seeking some sunshine the Saturday playing numbers are down but there is always room for visiting golfers who may like to play in the Saturday competition or for green fee players who just want to experience our beautiful course. The competition is a 10.00 am tee off and visitors would be made very welcome.

On Thursday 13 July three ladies played in the Avenel Plate. Avenel is the only course in the Dalhousie District with sand greens so players can enjoy the experience and the challenges that such a course presents. Jenny Coleman (29) had a very successful day and with 37 points won C Grade, the veterans section and was part of the winning small team. There have been 13 Dalhousie ladies events during this first half of 2024 and Marysville have played in 11 of them and also participated in the annual Pennant season. This is a great effort from the small cohort of ladies and members thank them for representing Marysville. The next event after the winter recess is in September.

Members were greatly saddened to hear of the death of Jan Emblin past member and wife of Life Member Bob. They have both been involved with the club for many years and Bob still volunteers as part of the green keeping team. Members send their condolences to Bob and the Emblin family and friends.

Members and friends are encouraged to support the fundraising effort to replace the stolen tools and equipment. The club is very heartened and thankful for the support to date but more needs to be done. Please contact Kellan Fiske, or Steve Coker if you are able to assist.
