Golf Report - 12 April, 2025

Updated: 2 days ago

On Thursday 12 April 21 players played Stableford on the back nine holes with some new players - Ally Strachan and Kait McDiarmid playing and some returning members Alex Bullard and Di McKenzie also playing. Gail Leigh (6) won the competition with an excellent 22 points followed by Kellan Fiske (12) with 20 points. Mark Alexander won the nearest the pins on both the 11th and 18th holes. The shot of the day was played by visitor Ally (0) who, on the 13th Par 4 hole hit his drive half-way up the hill close to the green. His second shot, a chip, hit the flag and after a confident putt he birdied the hole.

The following Saturday the car park was full of cars belonging to members and the visitors of the day - the Tour Elephants. This group of golfers have been playing in a Marysville Challenge for 10 years in what has become a major event on the club syllabus. The 44 golfers played a Stableford round with mixed groups and a shotgun start. Local knowledge was obviously a great advantage with all major winners playing for Marysville. The lady's winner was Helen Howard (22) with 37 points on a countback from Amanda Rattay (26). Ken Whittingham (29) won the men’s competition with an excellent 40 points and Richy Clark (15) was the runner up with 39 points. Nearest the pins were won by Gail Leigh, Glen Rattay, Heather Jenkins and Brian Worcester who also won the golden shot.

There were a few novelty challenges with Amanda Rattay winning the ladies longest drive, Drew Kaempkes winning the men’s longest drive and Ross Ansell hit the straightest drive and also played an eagle on the Par 4 5th hole. At the presentation it was announced that Marysville had won the challenge with 769 points and an average of 32.04 and Tour Elephants gaining 610 points and an average of 30.5. The Tour Elephants have won the beautiful wooden trophy on five occasions and Marysville are gradually catching up with four wins.

At the presentation after play thanks were given to many people who contributed to such a successful day with Steve Morrell the Tour Elephant's Captain and Steve Coker the Marysville President speaking on behalf of all members. Special thanks were given to Heather Jenkins who coordinated the event, the staff at the Pavilion Bar and Grill for the delicious lunch and to the Tour Elephants for their ongoing friendship and support.

On Sunday 6 April Round 4 of the mixed/men’s Handicap Div 2 pennant was played at Strathbogie. Marysville beat Alexandra 3-2 which places Marysville on top of the ladder as they go into the final round against Whittlesea.

A Stableford round was played on Easter Saturday - I am currently on holiday, so no report for this week.

On Thursday 24th April Marysville will be hosting the Dalhousie Veterans event.
