Last Thursday, the nine-hole summer competition kicked off with a BBQ before a round of golf on the front nine. The delicious BBQ was kindly provided by Amanda and Glen Rattay and Mark Alexander and expertly cooked by Richy Clark. Once players managed to drag themselves away from the BBQ, they played a two-person Ambrose. The winning pair was Keith Atwell and Geoff Ferguson (3.75) with a nett score of 31.25. Glen and Amanda Rattay (4.25) were runners-up with a nett score of 32.75. Nearest the pins were won by Mark Alexander on the 9th and Glen on the 4th, who also played the shot of the day — a birdie on the long par-5 3rd hole.
Whilst the nine-holers were playing at home, four ladies had an early start to travel to Lancefield for the annual Ladies Bowl. It was an enjoyable day for all, with Lancefield Team 1 taking out the Bowl and Lancefield Team 2 finishing second. Heather Jenkins also earned four Dalhousie Player of the Year points.
The Saturday golfers played a stroke round for the November Monthly Medal. Most of the ladies found it challenging to post a good score, but Gail Leigh (13) played well to win the medal with a nett 76. Helen Howard (25) was runner-up with a nett 80. Gail’s round included a birdie and a nearest-the-pin on the par-3 9th hole, where her tee shot landed just 45 cm from the pin.
The winner of the men’s medal was the in-form Glen Rattay (12) with nett 70 followed by Richy Clark (13) with nett 72. Richy also won the putting with 26 putts. Peter Lilley won nearest-the-pin on the 18th hole and took out the Golden Shot.
Members are preparing for a busy weekend at the club, with the inaugural Community Standpipe Cup on Saturday, 8 November, followed by the Annual Mixed Tournament on Sunday, 9 November. For more information, please visit the club website and Facebook page.
The first round of the Foodworks Murrindindi Masters 2025/26 Series will be held at the Alexandra Golf Club on Saturday, 15 November. All Murrindindi golfers are encouraged to register their intent to play with their club officials as soon as possible. Please email Sabrina Stow by no later than Friday, 7 November by including your Golf ID and your preference for start time (early/late).
The Marysville golf course is looking stunning at the moment, with the azaleas and rhododendrons in full bloom. The display behind the 12th hole is especially colourful. Members extend their thanks to past members for their foresight in planting them, and to current members for their ongoing care and maintenance.
