Golf Report - 9 September 2023

Last week a very wet Friday and a wet Saturday morning may have deterred some golfers from playing but the conditions did improve, the course was playable and those who did play enjoyed the day. The final of the mixed match play was held with Richie Clark and Brian Worcester going head-to-head in a very close match. The game went to the 20th hole which Richie won and both were pleased to return to the clubhouse for some stress relief and refreshments. Congratulations to Richie on his victory and to Brian for the very close game.

Whilst Richie and Brian were battling in the match play the other golfers played a stableford round. The ladies winner was Jody Doran (13) with an excellent 36 points followed by Heather Jenkins (20) with 34 points. Ming Kuan (16) also with 39 points won the men’s section and Peter Lilley was the runner up with 32 points. The nearest the pins were won by Steve Coker (2) Jody Doran and Richie Clark who also won the golden shot. At the presentation Alan and Helen Howard were welcomed back from their long journey through the Australian outback.

On Thursday 7th September four ladies played in the Dalhousie District Open Foursomes event at Euroa. In perfect weather conditions 17 pairs played for the major trophy but unfortunately the Marysville pairs were not on the winners list. Congratulations to the combined team of Terri O’Callahan from Trentham and Di Byrne from Seymour for winning the scratch event. Marysville players brought home two raffle prizes. Sadly, this event will no longer be held as the number of entrants have decreased over the last few years and it is therefore no longer viable. On Thursday 14th September four ladies will play in the Avenel tournament.

Next Saturday four Marysville members will attend a meeting at the Alex Golf club to be informed by the Dalhousie District President and a Golf Australia representative about the proposed changes to the District structure. The golfers at Marysville will play a Par round with the men playing the final of the Par Shield.

The Marysville ladies Tournament will be held on Thursday 12th October and all local golfers and those from further afield are warmly invited.
