Golf Report - 27 January 2024

Last Saturday members welcomed to the competition a number of visitors who were holidaying in the area for the Australia Day weekend.  In excellent playing conditions both the men and the ladies played a stroke round. The ladies winner was the in-form Heather Jenkins (18) with 72 nett and Heathers round included 25 putts which was the best of the day. The runner up was Sabrina Stow (23) with nett 75. The men’s winner was Peter Lilley (16) with nett 69 on a countback from visitor Lionel Fernandez (25). The nearest the pins were won by Adam Littlejohn, Peter Lilley, Steve Coker and Sabrina Stow who also won the Golden Shot.

On Friday 26 January four pairs of Marysville players played in the 4BBB event at Seymour Golf Club. There were no winners amongst the Marysville players but Helen Howard was presented with the 2023 Dalhousie Player of the Year trophy which she won jointly with Broadford member Mary Campbell. They were awarded their trophy by a representative from the Bendigo Bank in Wallan, Kilmore and Romsey who sponsor the Player of the Year event each year. Congratulations to Helen and Mary.

Last Saturday an evening of Barefoot Bowls was held on the Marysville golf club bowling green. About 40 people enjoyed a  friendly evening of Barefoot Bowls in glorious conditions. The bar was open and some free nibbles were provided. Our thanks to Jody Doran and Duncan Talbot for organising the gathering and our appreciation goes to all those who supported the event. The all-weather floodlit bowling green can be hired by local or visiting groups. Enquiries can be made by contacting the golf club on (03) 5963 3241.

Unfortunately, on Saturday 13 January the club was broken into overnight and a substantial number of tools and equipment including chainsaws, brush cutters, and golf clubs were stolen. The perpetrators, for access, cut through a boundary fence on the Buxton Marysville Rd and drove around the course before breaking into the sheds. This is a major setback for the club and if anyone saw any suspicious behaviour that night would they please report it to the local Police. There were other properties broken into around the same time including at Lake Mountain, The Marysville cemetery and at a local contractors home.

Next Saturday on the 3rd February the third round of the Foodworks Murrindindi Masters will be held at Alexandra and the 4th round  will be played at Yea the following week. There will be no competition at Marysville on those two Saturdays. The next Saturday game at Marysville will be on 17 February when a stroke round will include the February monthly medal and round one of the Barton Shield for the ladies.
