Last Thursday six Marysville ladies played in the annual Isobel Bett Memorial tournament at Yea. The weather, although hot, was dry and sunny and the course was in excellent condition. There were some very good scores but Marysville member Mim Page (21) with an excellent net 64 won the day and the Isobel Bett Trophy. This follows Mim’s good score of 42 points at the first round of the Murrindindi Masters and the title of Marysville Mini Master. Members congratulated Mim on her recent victories. At Yea Mim was also a member of the winning small teams event and Margaret Blair (31) won the veterans section with net 71. Our thanks to the Yea ladies for their hospitality at a very well organised tournament.
On Friday 24th November 48 golfers and 8 cyclists with connections to the building industry assembled for the Annual Challenge at Marysville. This event receives generous sponsorship from International Trade Management, Transcend Group, Hansen and Yuncken, Vicmesh and the Tower Motel Marysville. This is the 14th year that the event has been held and it was great to see seven past winners competing. Whilst the cyclists went on a leisurely ride to Alexandra and Thornton and back the golfers played a stableford round. The best individual ladies score was by Marysville member Sabrina Stow (24) with 42 points. The winning team consisted of Kellan Fiske, Steve Coker and Myles Coker who with 102 points won on a countback from a team of Marysville ladies- Sabrina Stow, Helen Howard and Kelly Lloyd-Vanni. After play all those present enjoyed the presentation and the lunch provided by Marysville local Glen Fiske. There were many positive comments about the condition of the course and all participants look forward to next year’s 15th event.
When there is the possibility of a thunder storm there are very strict rules which golfers have to adhere to. Play was interrupted on Saturday when golfers had to return to the clubhouse to wait for a storm to pass. The ladies didn’t resume their game but a few men continued to play for the Captains Trophy. Steve Coker won the trophy with an excellent 37 points and was awarded the captains trophy by Vice Captain Colin Davies. The Golden Shot was won by Meredith Doery having played a nearest the pin before her round was abandoned.
On Sunday a number of Marysville members played in the inaugural Eildon mixed tournament. The players enjoyed the day and thank the Eildon members for their hospitality.
The club members and friends have recently hosted a number of events both golfing and social including a wedding, a memorial gathering, groups of social green fee players, social lawn bowlers and their own tournament and competitions. It takes many hours of work by many people to keep a golf club functioning and all the volunteers must be thanked profusely for their contribution to the successful running of all the events during 2023.
On Thursday 6 ladies will play in the Euroa Bowl which is the final Dalhousie ladies event for the year and on Saturday the men and ladies will play a stroke round for the December monthly medal. The ladies round will incorporate the final of the Barton Shield.
