Golf Report - 25 Apr 2022

Lest we forget

Each Thursday a group of keen golfers play a 9-hole competition and last week they played the final of the Summer Cup. The qualifying rounds were played over 23 weeks with stroke, par and stableford in rotation and the venue alternating each week between the front and the back nine holes. The leader of the competition after the qualifying rounds with 40 points was Bob Emblin followed by Richy Clark on 36 points and Brian Worcester with 32. These three and seven other players qualified for the finals played over a round each of par, stableford and stroke. The winner of the Summer Cup was Geoff Ferguson from Colin Davies. Ray Jones and Paul Martin finished in third place. Congratulations to Geoff and all the other finalists. Next Thursday after a 12.00 noon sausage sizzle an Ambrose will be played and all golfers are invited to join the nine holers in their final event before the Winter Cup begins.

Whilst the nine holers were playing the Summer Cup final a number of ladies were playing in the Broadford Tournament. Helen Howard (22) won B Grade with nett 72 and Beverley Bellman (33) won C Grade with nett 73. Helen, Beverly and Jillian Chandler also won Dalhousie Player of the Year points. Congratulations to our winners and thanks to the ladies for representing Marysville at Broadford. The ladies Dalhousie event this week is the Alexandra Tournament.

On Saturday the ladies played the third round of their Championships. The daily winner was Jillian Chandler (33) with nett 73 followed by Kelly Lloyd-Vanni (41) nett 75 on a countback from Gail Leigh. Kelly is a relatively new member of the club and members were thrilled that she had a competition win at Marysville.

The men also played a stroke round and the winner was Ross Ansell with 72 nett followed by Duncan Talbot (11) with 73 nett. The nearest the pins were won by Yewls Kuan, Sabrina Stow, Julian Stow and Ross Ansell. Ross and Yewls won the Golden Shot and Jillian Chandler won the putting with an excellent 24 putts. Next Saturday the ladies will play a match- play game in preparation for the upcoming pennant season and the men will play a stableford round for the second round of the Barton Cup.

After play on Saturday the men’s golf section held their AGM. The golf officials remain the same with Colin Davies Captain, Alan Howard Vice Captain, Peter Lilley Handicapper and Richy Clark and Brian Worcester members of the match committee. Many thanks to those men for accepting these positions for another year.

On Sunday in the third round of the men’s pennant competition Marysville played Alexandra at Strathbogie. Congratulations to Alexandra for winning 3/2 and thanks to Steve Coker, Alan Howard, Richy Clark, Duncan Talbot and Mark Alexander for representing Marysville. They next play Yea at Alexandra on Sunday 1st May.

Members are reminded that the Saturday tee off time is now 9.30 for 10.00 am. A working bee will be held at the club on Tuesday 24th May from 9.00 am. All volunteers will be welcome and many hands will make light work.
