Golf Report - 23 September 2023

Writer: MCG&BCMCG&BC

It was a busy Saturday at the club last week when the ladies played the final round of their Championships, the men played a stableford game, all competition fees and raffle money was donated to the Buxton CFA and there was a wedding on the decking and clubhouse later in the day. All these activities took place in glorious sunshine and perfect conditions for golf and a wedding.

The 2023 Ladies Club Champion is Gail Leigh who had a total gross score of 252 for three rounds. The runner up with a gross score of 268 was Jody Doran. Gail was also the champion in the handicap section with nett 225 followed by Heather Jenkins with 227 nett. Congratulations to Gail, Heather and Jody. Heather and Gail were also the winners of the daily competition. Heather (21) won with nett 76 followed by Gail (12) with nett 79. The men’s daily winner was Richie Clark (16) with an excellent 41 stableford points and Paul Martin (30) was the runner up with 34 points. The nearest the pins were won by Richie Clark, Peter Lilley, Jenny Coleman and Steve Berry who also won the Golden Shot. All competition fees, raffle money and donations were donated to the Buxton CFA.

On Thursday six ladies played in the Kilmore Tournament and Gail Leigh played an excellent round with 84 gross. Jacqui Baker from Kilmore also had 84 gross which necessitated a play-off between the two players. They replayed the first hole which Jacqui won and therefore received the Jan Reeves Trophy. Lesley Rundle lost on a countback to Romsey player Elaine Scanlon as winner of C Grade. The ladies enjoyed the day and thanked the Kilmore ladies for their hospitality. On Thursday Strathbogie will be the venue for the Dalhousie ladies event. The Marysville ladies tournament will be held on Thursday 5th October.

On Saturday 30 September both the ladies and men will play stableford for the Neil Murphy Trophy. Play will start at 9.00 to allow members to get home in time to watch the AFL Grand Final.

From Saturday 7 October Saturday tee off time will be 9.00 for 9.30. Also, after play on 7 October the men and ladies AGM will be held prior to a meeting for all members.
