After a busy few weeks at the club last Saturday golfers returned to the regular competition and played a stableford round for the Captains Trophies. A few golfers were put off by the forecast 33 degree heat and stayed at home to keep cool but a number of golfers soldiered on and enjoyed the day. The Stow family had a successful day with Travers (20) winning the men’s section with 40 points and Sabrina (23) with 39 points winning the ladies trophy. The men’s runner up was Alan Howard (16) with 36 points and Lesley Rundle (34) was the ladies runner up also with 36 points on a countback from Helen Howard. The nearest the pins were won by Alex Bullard (2) Richy Clark and Jody Doran. It was great to welcome new Junior member Billy Baker to the competition and members hope he will continue to play regularly and enjoy competition play. Next Saturday the men will play the final of the Par Shield and the ladies will play stableford for the Norman Trophy. Members are asked to please sign the list in the clubrooms if they intend playing in the second round of the Foodworks Murrindindi Masters at Alexandra on 11th January. Also please let Alan Howard know if they are attending the lunch at the Presentation Day on 21st December.
On another hot day the Thursday golfers played stroke on the front nine holes. The winner was Richy Clark (5) with an impressive nett 35 and 12 putts on a countback from Geoff Ferguson (8). Richy’s round included a 20 foot putt on the 9th hole for a Par and Ken Whittingham won the nearest the pin on the 9th hole.
Also, on Thursday 6 members spent a day at the Spring Valley Golf Club in Clayton South being coached by Travis Harrison of the Brighton Golf Academy. Every aspect of the game was covered including long shots, bunker play, lining up putts, and course management with Travers accompanying the players around nine holes. It was a full day of practice and information and all participants enjoyed the experience. They now have to put into practice what they learnt. Participants thank Travers for his time and individual and group coaching.
