Golf Report - 12 June 2022

The ladies’ 2022 Dalhousie pennant season came to an end on Monday June 6th at Kilmore. After 5 qualifying rounds the final of both divisions was played at Kilmore golf club. After the five rounds the Marysville ladies finished in second place on the ladder and had to play top placed and unbeaten Lancefield in the final. On the day with 3 of the 5 games completed Marysville were 2-1 down and the two remaining players each had to play a 19th hole to get a result. The team were thrilled when both of the Marysville players won on the 19th hole winning the match 3-2. It was a nail biting and thrilling final and Marysville would like to congratulate the Lancefield ladies on such a close match and for the spirit in which it was played. Congratulations to the Marysville squad of seven- Miriam Page, Jenny Coleman, Helen Howard, Jillian Chandler, Beverley Bellman, Margaret Blair and Lesley Rundle – on their victory and the pennant trophy will sit alongside the Men’s 2022 Pennant trophy which they contested a few weeks ago. The ladies celebrated with a luncheon in Healesville on Wednesday and our thanks to Colin and Lorna Davies for supplying the delicious celebratory cake eaten at the club on Saturday.

The Division 1 final was won by Seymour 4.5 -.5 against Yea. Congratulations to the Seymour team on their victory. Our thanks to all the teams who participated in the pennant competition, to the clubs who hosted the matches and to the Dalhousie match committee for organizing the event.

Last Saturday the ladies played stableford and the men played a stroke round for the final of the Barton Cup. The winner of the Barton Cup was the in form Peter Lilley (18) with nett 70. Richy Clark (14) was the runner up with nett 73. Peter also won the putting with 26 putts. Well played Peter. The ladies’ winner with 36 points was Gail Leigh (10) and Gail’s win included 4 consecutive Birdies on the 4th 5th 6th and 7th holes. The runner up was Jody Doran (11) with 33 points. The nearest the pins were won by Mark Leitinger, Gail Leigh and Jim Bissett. Special congratulations to Ray Jones for scoring an Eagle from 130 mts. out on the Par 4 2nd hole.

Next Saturday both the ladies and men will play Par with the men playing the first round of the Par Shield. The Dalhousie District ladies events are now in winter recess with no Bowls or Tournaments to be held until late in August. Marysville ladies have represented the club at nearly every Dalhousie event so far this year and considering the amount of time and travel involved this is a great achievement.

Lesley Rundle.
