Golf Report - 11 September 2022

Writer: MCG&BCMCG&BC

Prior to play last Saturday the club management committee held the 2022 AGM. The election of office bearers took place and the committee members remained the same apart from Jody Doran who was elected as a general member. Our thanks to President Steve Coker, Vice President Peter Lilley, Treasurer Travers Stow, Secretary Andrew O’Shea, and general members Jim Bisset, Colin Davies, Ross Ansell, Miriam Page and Jody Doran for accepting the responsibility of managing the club. They were thanked profusely for their commitment to the task and for their willingness to manage the club for another year. All members contribute in some way to the operations of the club and they were all thanked by the President.

The green keeping team, led by Kellan Fiske, are an essential group of volunteers. Without a well maintained course therewould simply not be a club. Tuesday 13th September has been declared Golf Superintendents Day by Golf Australia and we acknowledge the great work that Kellan does to present the course in such a fine way. Many thanks Kellan. 🙏

After the AGM the lady golfers played a stableford round for the Norman Trophy. The Norman Trophy was donated by past member Nancy Norman and was first played for in 1968. The 2022 winner was Gail Leigh (12) with 36 points. Mim Page (21) was the runner up with 31 points. The men played the final of the Par Shield which was won by Yewls Kuan (14) with +3 followed by Andrew O’Shea (6) with -1. Congratulations to Gail and Yewls the two trophy winners. The nearest the pins were won by Ming Kuan (2) and Andrew O’Shea who also won the Golden Shot. It was good to welcome Andrews wife Julie to the competition after a long absence.

On Thursday 15 September five ladies will play in the Bowl at Avenel the only club in the Dalhousie district to have sand greens.

Next Saturday brothers Ming and Yewls Kuan will play against each other in the final of the mixed match play and all other golfers will play a stableford round in mixed groups.
