As we near the end of a difficult year we would like to thank all of you; the companies, organisations and individuals who have given us their support. There have been many who have helped financially; with products and services in-kind; donated gifts or simply been and played at the Club.
2009 saw some major events held at the Club which confirmed to us something that we, who are close to it, already knew - Marysville Golf Course is a gem of a course that can hold major tournaments and events.
The Ilhan Food Allergy Foundation held their annual Charity Challenge at the Club in November when Australia’s top three golfers Geoff Ogilvy, Adam Scott and Stuart Appleby joined celebrities and players to raise money for the Club and the Foundation.
In October the MAGIC group (Melbourne Golfers with Indian Connections) brought friends and families for a day of golf and bowls and provided entertainment and delicious Indian food for players, guests and many locals who dropped in to enjoy the fun.
December saw ABC celebrities and friends in a corporate match and our inaugural Pro-Am – and what a great success this was. We are now planning that this is a permanent fixture on our playing calendar.
Our small Bowling Club was delighted to receive a sports grant which enabled them to replace the surface of the bowling green. We now have a carpet surface plus external lighting which enables all year round bowls… plus the club continues to play well and rank highly in the Yarra Valley League.
2010 will see us moving forward and meeting head on the challenges that we still have – we need to increase green fee players and members. We have lost one of our traditional markets, the staying visitor in Marysville, so we are working with the existing accommodation businesses to encourage visitors to Marysville and the Club. The day visitors to the town are many as the cafes, restaurants and shops all start to reopen.
New membership fees and packages will be published in March and we will look to encouraging more companies and organisations to hold events here. The club house will be available for events, celebrations, meetings and conferences.
So no longer will we be one of Victoria’s best kept secrets our intention is to let everyone know just where we are, Marysville is back in business and so are we!
